The Castlegar and District Wildlife Association is cautiously moving ahead with plans to construct a nature interpretation trail in the vicinity of Pass Creek. Initial planning work is underway and includes determining land ownership, permitting, construction and maintenance costs, and final visioning for the trail to ensure that all stakeholders are supportive of the project.
The map to the left provides a rough, first draft of the proposed trail location. The trail will provide visitors to the RDCK Pass Creek campground with a short trail that can introduce them to the natural values of the area. The final trail locations will also provide clear linkeage to the existing Waldie Island Trail and so hopefully encourage visitors to explore that local trail as well
Three of four interpretive signs are planned for the trail length. These signs would be of the same high quality as Walter Volovsek’s signage on trails in this region. The signs will provide information on he unique local biological diversity, Kokanee spawning channel and other local “fish stories”, raptors, waterfowl and other birdlife, and local large mammals. One sign will be completed in the initial planning phase of the project and will be placed within the Pass Creek Regional Park
Following a meeting last November attended by more than 20 stakeholder group representatives to explore interest in the Confluence Park concept, a second meeting was held in January by a smaller group seeking to clearly define the park concept. A follow up meeting will be held this month.
