to have these cleared away as soon as they are discovered and brought to our (my) attention. Let me repeat my sincere thanks to all our dedicated trail workers of last year. You made my role as Trails Maintenance Co-ordinator a pleasure and a privilege. Thank you all.
This year we will again, at long last, be able to traverse the Brilliant Canyon section of the Skattebo Reach (SR) trail, i.e. the section that runs from about the south end of the Brilliant Doukhobor suspension bridge be low and across and above the new operational Columbia Power Corporation (CPC) Brilliant power dam expansion project. We've been effectively excluded from that trail section since Spring 2003, so it'll be lovely now, to park at the Park n Ride at the south end of the Hwy 3A/6 Brilliant bridge and to follow the new trail from there, along the natural gas pipeline towards the Kootenay river, pass under the S-end of the highway bridge and join the remains of the old Hwy towards the S-end of the suspension bridge. Turn right off this old road, up the steep bit of trail and access the southernmost, the "Canyon " section of the SR trail. Do take care as you proceed through here, the trail is still steep. Children should be accompanied and carefully watched and assisted for their safety. Do watch your footing and use the hand cables where provided. The exposed bedrock can be slippery under various conditions. My Thanks, on behalf of us all, have been expressed to Ms Kim Wright and her crew of the Brilliant Expansion project for their work to help restore passage across this tricky section of our SR trail where it had to be rerouted and repaired after the rock-falls resulting from the project roadwork above. Please everyone, remember to always lookout for and respect any traffic you may encounter while you are crossing and travelling along the powerhouse access road where it is shared with our trail.
Since I accepted the role of CFPT's Trail Maintenance Co-ordinator in Spring 2003, I've had the good fortune to have the dedicated help of a group CFPT members who volunteered, at an organizational meeting hosted at Selkirk College by myself and Walter Volovsek, to physically care for and report on their chosen sections of our CFPT trail system. Most of these people have reported to me, several times each year on their trips across their chosen trail sections. Their names and trail sections are listed below. Some of these good folk may be ready now to hand over to new trail "carers". Most I know are happy to continue in their volunteer caring roles. Please advise me at (phone) 359- 7107 and leave a message if necessary of any change in your wish or intent to continue to care for and report on your chosen section of trail. Thank you all:
Agnes and Stephen Walden ---- Dove Hill trail to Elk Cut-Off junction.
Rob Macrae ---- Elk Cut-Off trail and Dove Hill trail from the junction with to the new Brilliant power substation parking area and toilet.
