President John Mansbridge's:

REPORT ON YEAR 2005

We had 5 executive and 4 general meetings during 2005. We placed boxes at the beginning of trails where people could sign as they go on the trail and where we could distribute brochures.

Our signage program intended to help people find the trail and stay on it and would treat the trails with respect. We published a brochure on the route of the Trans-Canada trail through Castlegar and new brochures on Waldie Island and the trails in the Castlegar area. A brochure on the Kootenay and Selkirk College trails is in the works.

Usage of the trails is up considerably. The trails are kept clear and in good shape. Newsletters keep our members informed on a regular basis.

Parks and Trails participated in SUNFEST, the Fall Fair, the UN Environmental day and organized a hike down the Columbia Trail for River?s Day. Contacts have been made with all of our partner?s in the trail-building process. We have had talks with Columbia Power, City of Castlegar and a local bike group to keep them updated on what we are doing. We have a new Website which we keep up-to-date. Our logo now has three hikers on it rather than just one to show people they do not have to hike alone!

This coming year we will be concerned with completing some of the projects for which we have made commitments.

My thanks to all the members of the executive who have worked hard to keep the society moving forward. We will be in the market IN THE NEAR FUTURE for a couple of newsletter people and a bank person. (Details in a separate article in this paper)
