DIRECTOR'S REPORT TO THE AGM

A brief summary of some of the projects undertaken during the past year follows:

.

COMMENT BOXES
Comment boxes are now in place at the railway bridge end of the Waldie Island Trail, the Poupore gate end of the Columbia Trail, as well as on the Skattebo Reach Trail at the Brilliant Overlook junction. These serve as distribution sites for trail information and provide an opportunity for users to provide feedback to the Society. Thank you to everyone who took the time to record their observations and suggestions.

It is proposed that we install a box at the base of the Dove Hill Trail.

BROCHURES
An updated map of the Kootenay River Trails combined with a layout of the Campus Trails at Selkirk College should be ready shortly. It will complement the Trails of the Castlegar Area brochure revised this year by John Mansbridge. The Waldie Island Heron Reserve and highlights of the Waldie Island Trail are described in an information pamphlet available at the Waldie trailhead.

SIGNS
We have continued to install hiker tab and directional signs at various locations in order to make it easier for first-time users to find our trailheads. Other signs were put up to indicate scenic branch trails at the top of Dove Hill and at the turnoff to the Little McPhee Waterfall.

WALDIE ISLAND DOG-DOO STATION ..

In response to comments recorded at Waldie Island, FRIENDS installed a bag dispenser (supplied by President John) at the beginning of the trail in order to help walkers with pets to clean up after their animals. The City of Castlegar has kindly helped out with a supply of bags.

Respectfully submitted,
Gordon Hollingshead
