TRAIL MAINTENANCE -

(continued from page 5)

The Waldie Island Trails were left in the good care of our summer employee, Steven Rigby. By all reports, Steven was very successful in controlling [mowing] tall grass and weeds and slashing brambles along our WI Trails. Thanks to Dave Sharp for liaison with Steven

.

Thanks also to John Mansbridge, Gordon Hollingshead and Harry Simoens for some serious tidying up over there of trees that had tumbled and tables that had crumbled.

Re: the 2006 season's trails maintenance:
to express your willingness to care for & report problems on your choice of sections of our trail system for this year, please phone 359-7107 or e-mail apwood@shaw.ca

I will be phoning those who were on my 2005 list and who have made contact with me in the last twelve months. Expect my call in the next two weeks.

I do plan on being 'out of reach' [in UK, Australia, the Valhallas and the BC coast for about 5 months total out of this year]. If there is anyone out there who would like to be Deputy and “in-training” Trail Management Coordinator – please let me or the other members of the Executive know.

Meanwhile, keep on hiking our fabulous, local, easy-access, valley-side trail system. Take the time to contemplate, observe and appreciate all the wonders of Nature around us. Breathe in deeply our free fresh air, stretch and exercise those muscles, ligaments and joints!

Reflect on the foresight and organizational energies of our founding members and others e.g. Mel Deanna, Bill Merilees, Colin Pryce, Walter Volovsek and Harry Killough. They and their many influential supporters and co-workers have laid the foundations of most of our local trails. Let us not take this heritage for granted as we enjoy our trail wanderings.

Happy Trails to you all. Thank you for your support in this very worthwhile endeavour.

Pass Creek Park

Pass Creek Park is almost ready for the year's business. If you have any extra plants from tidying your garden, Lynne will use them to improve her landscaping. Just drop them off at the park anytime.

Pass Creek Park has been chosen by Trails BC/Tourism BC as a site for a kiosk because of its proximity to the Trans-Canada Trail, its safety, and its popularity as a stopover for trail riders. We wish the Hague family a busy and prosperous season.

Dan and Lynne are looking forward to passing out our brochure showing the routes through Castlegar.
