PRESIDENT'S REPORTfrom John Mansbridge
This is my first year as president of Castlegar Friends of Parks and Trails. Elaine Robinson, our past president, has been a tremendous help in getting me oriented and has assisted me in a number of ways.
My goals for the year centred around getting more people to know about our incredible trails and how they might use them. I believe we made some headway here as some of the reports will show.
We had booths at both Sun Fest and the Fall Fair. A guided hike down the Columbia Trail was held on Rivers Day. Articles have appeared in the local newspapers. A brochure on trails in the Castlegar area was published and distributed and a brochure on the route of the Trans-Canada Trail through Castlegar is almost complete.
Access to trails is of great concern. We must continually work with our partners, who also have interests in the property we use, to make sure they keep our needs in mind.
This year it was announced that the Trans- Canada Trail will pass through Castlegar. This will no doubt affect us in the future.
We have had 5 executive meetings this year and 3 general meetings. You will see from the reports what a great deal of valuable work the Executive has accomplished and I thank them very much.
I would especially like to thank Doug Johnstone, who is retiring this year after serving many years as treasurer. He has kept Friends of Parks on Trails on a firm financial footing.
We have had many donations this year from local government, the private sector, organizations and individuals; some big, some small, but all very much appreciated.
