PRESIDENT'S REPORT
from John Mansbridge
We have had, and are having, a very pleasant summer, if a little warm on some days. We are fortunate
to have trails with so many trees which provide so marlY cool shady spots on these hot days. Your executive has not been completely asleep over the summer. Some of us have met with Columbia
Power about the rerouting of die lower Skattebo Trail in the area of die Brilliant Dam expansion. There
is hopefully more on this in other parts of this newsletter.
We have also met with Columbia Power about further work which is to be done on the existing trails as
Phase 2 and 3 of an existing agreement. We will be Signing this contract soon. The trails involved are the
Brilliant Overlook and the Doukhobor Waterline trails with some more work on the Skattebo Trail. This
work will be done next year.
Castlegar Friends of Parks and Trails is part of a group of local organizations which is applying for a
Katimavik group to come to Castlegar. Katimavik is a federally sponsored organization of young people
who do volunteer work in communities. It looks like we will be successful so we will have 3 energetic
young people working on the trails with us next summer.
I personally appreciate all the work members of Parks and Trails are doing, both the executive and
those who work behind the scenes.
Bernice Advice who has done so much work on dealing with our money and memberships is retiring this
year. Bernice will be missed and our thanks for so many years of great work go out to her. Rick Johnson
has generously volunteered to carry on her good work and we look forward to working with him.
Elaine and Jim are still Carrying on with this newsletter but I know they would like a rest or a change of
scene. If there is anyone out there who has the urge to write, publish, whatever - this is your chance!
Memberships for some of us need to be renewed! There is a gentle reminder for those included with
this newsletter. It is not just the money but we need your support to help us maintain and develop this
wonderful inheritance of trails which we have. We are the envy of many communities.
"Happy trails to you -"
