4. Treasurer’s Report

5. No Business Arising

6. Committee Reports

Trail Use – Gordon finished the new Kootenay River Trails/Selkirk Campus Trails Brochure and has placed them in boxes at Skattebo Reach and Dove Hill; one is posted at the Brilliant terminal station parking. Dave pointed out that the brochure is in colour on our website and in PDF format. Elaine said we should send sets of our brochures to regional district representative Gordon Zaitsoff (4) and to Mayor Lawrence Chernoff and city counselors (6).

Newsletter and Membership – Elaine said our membership is about the same as before (170 members). More should be coming in after our Spring newsletter. Elaine and Jim will do one more newsletter; they will help whoever takes over.

Web Site and Waldie Island – Dave said everything is on our web now and we have links to newsletters past and present. Dave would like pictures from all the trails to put on the web.

Trail Maintenance – Peter was unable to attend, but John said that Peter is phoning trail stewards. Poul saw him clearing on the Doukhobor Waterline Trail using his axe. John mentioned that Oglow’s Paint has donated paint and supplies for repainting green benches on Dove Hill (3 or 4) and Skattebo Reach (2 or so).

7. New Business

Discussions with Brilliant Expansion Consortium – John has talked with Audrey Repin and he said that BEC are doing as good a job as they can with restoration of Skattebo Reach from the highway. We still have two contracts outstanding with Columbia Power – Skattebo Reach and Doukhobor Waterline Trail.

We also have a sum of money to work on the Columbia Trail; this will be contracted also.

Grant from City – John has applied for $800 from the City of Castlegar for maintenance of Waldie Island. This will be presented at a city council meeting in two weeks. Moved (Elaine)/seconded (Joan McDonald)/carried, that we proceed on the assumption that City will give us the money.

Sunfest – John said that we need a volunteer to coordinate our booth. John will help set up the tent. Elaine will give John a list of people who helped in the past. Deadline for registration: May 15 ($10.00 fee for a booth).

Columbia Trail – Some people are having trouble finding the trail, specifically the road which brings you down to the gate (past the Ootischenia dump and gravel pit). Gordon is going to paint a boulder orange.

Newsletter and Treasurer’s Assistant Openings – Joan McDonald volunteered to help with the newsletter. She can do some typing on her typewriter and Dave said it could be scanned for digital format. Bernice Kavic, currently our treasurer’s assistant, will be resigning after the next newsletter. Membership will be taken over by Rick Johnson.

  1. Adjourn – John declared the meeting adjourned at 8:25.

Our meeting was followed by a very interesting presentation by Lesley Anderton on the Trans Canada Trail. She passed around maps showing the changes in the route over the years. Currently the route takes you from Christina Lake–Castlegar–Trail- Nelson, via the ferry from Balfour to Crawford Bay, then onto the forestry road from Gray Creek over to St. Mary’s. Lesley showed wonderful slides of the Christina Lake to Castlegar section.
